Nearby attractions and activities:
The district Benrath is situated in the south of Düsseldorf and is regarded as a part of the higher class living settlements. The house itself lies in a calm sidestreet with the forest starting at the street's end (perfect for jogging).
Benrath's people are a unique type. Even though they live ten kilometers off the city center, they see little reason to drive into the "far" center; in fact the decorative Benrath market, located inside a pedestrian precinct in the historic town core (approx. 10 minutes on foot), offers everything their hearts desire. The Benrath locals also have their own restaurant and bar scene.
A few hundred metres south there is the district Urdenbach with its "Kämpe" - a naturally flooded area. This wonderful piece of Rhineland is popular with everyone in Düsseldorf as a recreational area to walk and ride. You can also walk and ride in the Benrath "Stadtforst" (forest). In the hall and open air bath you can choose to either swim under the sky or indoors the whole year round. The swimming tracks are 25 meters long in the hall, while outside there are two pools offering a length of 50 meters to people who want to swim more sportily.
Benrath Castle
The late baroque castle of Benrath (approx. 10 minutes on foot) with its expanded park, which has been refurbished for Euroga 2002, is a historical trademark of Düsseldorf - there is hardly a tourist or a city native who has not slid through here in slippers.
This popular palace and its park, located 12 km from the city center in the district Benrath, were built in 1755 by Karl Theodor. The harmonically designed architecture, the garden landscape, the sculptures and the decorative art are typical for the transition from the late baroque to the neoclassical style. The rooms, which can be visited in a one-hour guided tour, all have decorative parquet flooring, wood-clad walls and lots of stucco.
